Bring serenity into your home with this beautifully crafted ceramic dove made of glittering micaceous clay. Micaceous clay is flecked with naturally occurring mica, making the white clay sparkle with golden glitter. It is mined here in New Mexico in high altitude volcanic regions.
Handcrafted from white Micacious clay with golden mica glittering throughout. The dove was pinched and coiled into shape with much difficulty, and finally finished with gray underglazes to define the feather carving.
Micacious clay is a low firing clay, so do not leave it outdoors in freezing weather.
Dimensions: 7” tall x 5” wide x 10” deep
Artist Statement: The moment I first saw micacious clay in a studio in Taos, I immediately wanted to work with it. This dove was my first experience shaping this amazing clay body. It’s so soft and melty, sculpting with micaceous clay is like try to form a figure using cream cheese. It’s very challenging to work with, particularly in sculptures. It amazes me how magnificently the indigenous potters crafted large but thin walled cooking vessels in this beautiful but difficult clay body.
