A beautiful pair of barn owls created from glittering white micaceous clay. Micaceous clay is flecked with naturally occurring mica, making the white clay sparkle with golden glitter. It is mined here in New Mexico in high altitude volcanic regions.
Handcrafted from white micaceous clay with golden mica glittering throughout. The owls were pinched and coiled into shape without the use of forms. Feather details were added in the final firing by sponged on red iron oxide stain and glazed shiny black eyes, but the bodies of the owls are unglazed sparkly white clay.
Micaceous clay is a low firing clay, so do not leave them outdoors in freezing weather.

Artist Statement: I love barn owls. I particularly love their ghostly beauty in the winter when they are mostly white with only a mottling of red in their feathers. I thought this sparkling clay would be an ideal medium to create barn owls in a glittering winter woods. I have priced them as a set, but they can be purchased separately if desired.
