This sculpted face was left unglazed, with an application of iron oxide to highlight the scaly texture. He was made from a very high fired clay, so glaze isn’t required to make him durable or waterproof.
He was sculpted from highfire cone 10 clay, so he can easily withstand temperature extremes of the changing seasons outside.
Dimensions: 9” tall x 6” wide x 2.5” deep. Prewired for hanging.
Artist Statement: I was intrigued by the beauty of this model’s face, and I sculpted him with his crisply profiled lips, huge eyes, and high cheekbones. He was too beautiful for my crazy garden art faces, so I added scales to give him some complexity. I will not say who my model was, but you know him. I feel he is my most mysterious mask. I created many kinds of faces to surprise people walking through our woods and seeing the trees staring back at them! The masks are also great to hang on garden walls or fences. They really add personality to your spaces.
