A serene Buddha, seated in the lotus posture, radiates quiet authority. The figure’s proportions are balanced and classical: broad shoulders tapering to a narrow waist, a rounded chest, and a gently bowed head. Eyes are downcast in meditative focus, half-closed lids carved with delicacy; the mouth wears a faint, knowing smile that suggests inner peace rather than outward joy. The urna—a small, raised dot between the brows—subtly marks spiritual insight, while the ushnisha, a smooth cranial protuberance, crowns the head with dignified simplicity.
The hands rest in the dhyana mudra: palms together in the lap, right over left, thumbs lightly touching to form an oval, the emblem of contemplative concentration. Fingers are slender and tapered; the gesture is precise and calm. The ears are elongated, a traditional symbol of renunciation and awakened hearing, their lobes falling gracefully toward the shoulders.

Artist Statement: During the uncertainty and fear of the 2020 Covid lockdown, I built this, my first Buddha. I had previously studied Buddhism and often meditated, but during this endless and anxious time I found building my Buddha-coil by coil-very calming. It was almost a meditation in itself. He has been with me now for many years, and I’m finally ready to release his calming presence to another soul.
